From Rubble to Resilience: Ramesh’s Journey
By Ramesh Khatrim, Courteny Slonski, Kalpana Gurung and Bala Nikku

Nabin’s story is a powerful account of resilience in the face of tragedy. Once an active and athletic village boy who loved football, climbing trees, and swimming in rivers, his life changed forever on a single night in 2076. After a severe accident that left him unconscious for eight days, Nabin woke up to find his world shattered—his legs and one hand paralyzed, and his independence gone.

While his hand eventually healed, his legs never did. Thanks to his unwavering parents and dedicated therapists, Nabin slowly rebuilt his life—learning to sit, dress, eat, bathe, and move again, all from a wheelchair. Despite the pain and challenges, he chose to live fully and with gratitude, holding on to hope for a better future.

A striking part of his story is the preventable nature of his long-term injuries. Improper handling during transportation after the accident—being loaded into a police van without a stretcher—likely worsened his condition. He now reflects on how such injuries could be minimized through proper emergency response training and equipment.A striking part of his story is the preventable nature of his long-term injuries.
